If you are in Calgary and free Thursday May 1st, come out and support your community by checking out the Second to None - Reinvesting in Hope charity event in support of The Alex Youth Health Centre hostess by Distinctive Women. The Alex provides primary medical care to vulnerable Calgarians, and focuses on crisis prevention. I currently work with at risk youth in Calgary, so I will definitely be out supporting this event.
The Second to None - Reinvesting in Hope charity event will be collecting donations of gently used high-end fashion clothing and accessories and will include a runway show and silent auction. To learn more about how high-end consignment can help vulnerable youth build self-esteem, read the article below from The Alex website:
Imagine
having a second chance to change the course of a life. Imagine knowing that a
small act of generosity has the potential to rebuilt confidence, reduce stigma
and allow a youth the opportunity to pursue a dream.
It’s
often the absence of the littlest things, things that we take for granted, that
erode dignity, self-worth and the aspirations of a youth in need.
We know that close 20% of Calgary’s homeless are youth
and we know that in the course of a year we will see over 3,000 at-risk youth
who need our help to not just survive but to thrive. We know that for many of the youth we serve, dignity, hope
and dreams are shattered and without mentors, or the love of community-
acceptance seems just beyond their reach.
That’s
why we are thrilled to be the charity of choice for the Distinctive Women’s
2014 charity event – “Second to None”. This event is scheduled for May 1, 2014
at Devonian Gardens and will encourage women from all walks of life to pay it
forward while joining us for an evening of high-end consignment and new
fashion, silent auctions, beverages and sensational snacks in support of an
amazing cause – outfitting the youth we serve for dignity.
All proceeds from the event
will stock our clothing closet, ensuring our young clients have access to clean
and functional
clothes that remove a significant barrier to acceptance and possibility. We
know that rebuilding lives takes a whole lot more than a new wardrobe – it
takes a caring community and a second-chance to pursue your best life, but what
we also know is that when you look good- you feel good and when you feel good
you have hope. Help us pay hope
forward at this exciting event that will entice the fashionista and dreamer in
all of us.
As
spring prompts us to clean our closets or reduce last-year’s inventory we ask
for your support in turning last season’s treasures into this season’s
inspirational statement – a statement that says these kids and this event are second
to none!
