My Gym Bag/Beach Bag

posted on: Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Back in February I was sent this lovely beach bag by Hayden Reis. I was really hoping that I could fit in a vacation over spring break and that I could get to use this bag as it was intended, but it didn't work out. So then I had my fingers crossed that we would get some spring weather and I could make my way down to the community lake to study. No such luck. It's been snowing heaps here still, so I decided to give my gym bag a break and try out this bag instead. It's really sturdy and has load of pockets inside, so it's great as a gym bag. I'm also loving the orange in pink colour combo.

I snapped a few pictures of my outifts on my way to the gym as well as what I carry in my gym bag. Because I've mostly been running indoors I've gotten away with wearing shorts. I've only run outside twice in the last little while because I wear the vibram fivefinger shoes to run, and they aren't too great at protecting your toes again slush and snow. I had my eyes on the Virbram Lontra for outdoor winter running, and heard good things about them, but I really only have summer running clothes so I decided against them this year.

I'm really looking forward to actually using the bag as a beach bag. It's supposed to be water and sand resistant and extremely durable. I love that if my water bottle or sunscreen leaks in the bag it won't be ruined and can be easily cleaned. I also love that the bag is versatile, functional, and stylish.

Parkshow 13 According to my iPhone

As I've mentioned quite a few times here before, I'm on the fashion team of the organization PARK. A couple weeks ago we put on PARKSHOW 13, a fashion show featuring emerging designers from Alberta. I don't have any shots of the fashion show because I was backstage, but I do have a few behind the scenes shots from the set up and backstage during the show. Here are just a few snaps of the rehearsal, models hanging out waiting for hair and makeup, clothes on rolling racks, and the models lined up ready to walk the runway.

Beads and Braids

If you haven't heard yet, Zara has online shopping in Canada now! This sweat shirt is one of the items I ordered and I just love it. The beading on the sleeves is so fun.

In other news, I'm so excited that it's a long weekend! I go to school on Saturday and JP has band and hockey on Sundays, so we rarely get to spend a weekend together. We don't have much planned except for dinner with my family and dinner with his family. Other then that we will probably just be staying in. I'm mostly excited for breakfasts together. I've probably said this before but, JP makes the best breakfasts.

This past week my brother and I started running outside again. It's so nice that the sun is up longer and we can actually do an evening run with light! I seriously don't know how I did a half-marathon in October though. I am struggling with 5km right now. haha.

Anyways, that's all for now. Hope everyone is having a great Easter weekend!

What's in my Makeup Bag?

posted on: Wednesday, March 27, 2013

KD, Karolina and I decided to do another group post, this time showing you inside our makeup bags. Growing up I always had a vanity table for my makeup, but for the last few years I haven't had a set place to do my makeup. I use a few different makeup bags to separate my makeup and then I have some storage in a dresser drawer and under the bathroom sinks. My plan is to set up a dressing table soon, but for now this is my method. I received a set of Besty Johnson makeup bags as a gift at my bachelorette party, and this bag featured below is where I store my daily makeup. I like to keep the products that I reach for most in the same place, and every few weeks or so I'll switch out a product and try something different.

Make sure to check out KD's and Karolina's posts here and here!

Sugar and Coconut Oil Lip Scrub

posted on: Sunday, March 24, 2013

So, I've been completely obsessed with beauty blogs lately, and one blog that I especially love is Essie Button by Estee. As I was reading though her blog I cam across a DIY on how to make your own lip scrub with coconut oil, honey, and brown sugar. I'd heard of this before and had been looking for a lip scrub with minimal ingredients so I thought, what the hey, might as well make my own too.
Estee had measurements in her post (see Estee's post here), but I just threw a scoop of this and a scoop of that into a bowl and mixed it up. I also didn't have any honey, so I substituted agave, and because agave is sweeter then sugar I used about half as much.  I bought the little jar at superstore for $1 and it ended up working perfectly to hold my mixture. I've been using the scrub every couple nights before I go to bed and I think it's working pretty well at keeping my lips soft.

1. Mix agave (or honey) and coconut oil
2. Add a scoop of brown sugar and mix well
